Scott's summer fitness bid

12 April 2017

The 2016/17 season is drawing to a close but the hard work will continue over the summer for Scott Wootton as he bids to get fit in time for pre-season.

Wootton has been sidelined since August after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in the Checkatrade Trophy tie with Barnet, but the defender hopes by being in over the summer he’ll be in good shape when the squad returns for training ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

“When I’ve been through what I’ve been through, I don’t really mind having to be in over summer because I want to make sure everything is 100 percent right for next season,” Wootton told REDDOT in an exclusive interview ahead of Friday’s clash with Scunthorpe United.

“I knew this would probably be the case for me right at the start and it’s a sacrifice I have to make to try and ensure I don’t have to go through this again.”

He continued: “Things are going well at the minute. I’m progressing well in the gym and I’m really pushing my body more than ever.

“I think it’ll put me in a position where I’m in the best possible shape because you don’t really get the time when you’re playing to really focus on getting stronger and more powerful, especially lower-body stuff.

“Hopefully that bodes well for me and I can join up with the team in pre-season.”

Before then, Wootton will be watching on as the Dons look to end their season on a positive note.

The men from MK1 are currently riding a five-game unbeaten run and have climbed into the top half of the Sky Bet League One table – Wootton hopes to see them maintain this form and give themselves a platform to build from heading into the new season.

“I think it’s important to finish the season strong. In the last few games, the lads have been feeling really positive about themselves – we just need to continue that on until the end of the season and then maintain that through until the next campaign."

You can read the full interview with Wootton in the Scunthorpe United edition of REDDOT, which is available from Box Office.
