Quotes: Reeves, Thomas-Asante

1 September 2016

The returning Ben Reeves and exciting talent Brandon Thomas-Asante react to Tuesday's penalty shoot-out victory over Barnet...

BEN REEVES
On making his first start of the season...
“It was nice to get back on the pitch again. It’s always important to start a game. It’s a different way of going into a game. It was good.”

On goal...
“It’s always nice to score a good goal like that. The most important thing is the team and now obviously the most important thing is to get ready for Sunday. I’m sure we’ll do that.”

On more minutes towards full fitness...
“That’s the most important thing, the minutes (under the belt). Minutes are increasing every game and now I’m looking forward to Sunday.”

On confidence gained from a win...
“It is good (for confidence). It was nice for the some of the boys to hit the back of the net with their penalties. Doesn’t matter when they come, it’s just a nice feeling. Hopefully (finding the back of the net) is something we can do more during games now as that’s something we’re missing.”

On improving home form...
“We’re playing well at home but there are errors we need to improve on. It’s a different type of game when we play at home. Teams set up differently.”

On Sunday’s clash with Northampton...
“We know it’s a big game on Sunday and hopefully we can use that to catapult our season.”

BRANDON THOMAS-ASANTE
On scoring the winning penalty...
“I’m really happy. I just thought I’d put myself out there and put myself in a high-pressured situation and do my best. I just want to keep pushing on and I thought this was a good opportunity so I thought I’d take it and try to make the most of it. I had a look at the keeper, gave him a few words and then just finished it.”

On a good start to the season, personally...
“I’m happy with, first of all, the opportunity. At some clubs you wouldn’t really get this opportunity. I’ve just tried to not get nervous, although that’s kind of natural. From where I want to go, I’ve got a lot more to come but I’m happy with what’s happened so far and the opportunity so far.”

On keeping his feet on the ground...
“I’ve always been aware of my position. Nothing is for certain yet. I’ve just got to keep pushing on.”

On playing with the first team...
“I’m really enjoying it. My teammates are really hopeful and the fans have taken to me really well. I’m thankful to them, the manager and the assistant manager. Everyone has been very warming and welcoming, which is good because the young players can push on in a healthy environment. There’s a little bit of pressure but not too much.”
