Karl: More to come from improving Dons

26 September 2016

Karl Robinson believes there is still a lot more to come from his MK Dons side despite their impressive 4-1 victory at Fleetwood Town.

Robinson’s Dons saw off the Cod Army in convincing fashion to claim their first win in five league matches but the Liverpudlian still expects his team to improve, using the success at Highbury Stadium as a platform to build upon.

“This wasn’t the finished article today and there’s still a lot more to come from us,” Robinson told MK Dons PlayerHD.

“The fluidity wasn’t overly there so we had to be secure defensively and deny space between the lines – we worked so hard.

“We asked questions of their back four. We looked an offensive threat and defensively we looked very good.

“The scoreline flattered us a little bit but we’ve had games where we’ve had many more chances and not taken them. The difference today was when the chances came along we took them.”

“We’ve worked so hard over the last three weeks. Now, we’ve got to make sure we come back in on Monday, work hard again and get ready for Bury on Tuesday.”

“We’ve got a long way to go to catch up on the points that we’ve lost so far but hopefully we’ve turned that corner now.

He continued: “In the last three games we’ve taken five points from a possible nine which is positive – which is almost two points a game and that’s what we are looking for.

Saturday also saw a pair of Dons players reach personal milestones, with David Martin making his 300th career league appearance and Darren Potter hitting the 200 league appearance mark for the Club.

Robinson had this to say about the duo: “Appreciate them while they are here because their desire and application for this Football Club is sensational.”

The star of the show on Saturday was winger Ryan Colclough, who helped the Dons to victory by scoring his first career hat-trick. “I’m pleased for him,” Robinson added. “It’s the first hat-trick in his career which is important for him – hopefully there’s many more goals to come from him this season!”
