Dons introduce U21s side

19 September 2016

MK Dons have this season introduced an U21s side with the aim to aid the development of the Club’s younger players.

Director of Youth Mike Dove will continue to take the team after having already overseen the fixtures with Liverpool in pre-season and the recent Berks & Bucks County Cup success over Chalfont St Peter.

There are a number of games in the pipeline for the coming months, offering the likes of Oran Jackson, Ben Tilney, Giorgio Rasulo, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Kabongo Tshimanga the chance to get more match minutes.

The fixtures will also allow U18s to step and shine as well as first-team squad members the opportunity to keep sharp.

“This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,” Dove told MK Dons PlayerHD. “It bridges that gap between U18 and first-team football, while it also allows us to develop the players in the MK Dons way.

“It’s an exciting time for these players and I’m looking forward to working with this group. Oran and Brandon have already signed pro contracts and I know we’ve got more to come.”

He added: “Up until the end of the transfer window, the manager had some of the younger players around the first-team squad which was fantastic. We’re settling down now and getting into a routine with the U21s.”

The intention is for these fixtures to be played behind closed doors away from Stadium MK, but supporters will be kept up to date via the Club's communication channels.
