Brandon making most of chance

1 September 2016

Brandon Thomas-Asante has impressed in his first-team appearances so far this season and the young winger capped off the month of August by scoring the winning penalty on Tuesday evening.

Thomas-Asante earned MK Dons two points from their opening Checkatrade Trophy Group F tie with Barnet after confidently converting his spot-kick in a 5-3 shoot-out success at Stadium MK – the match finished 2-2 after 90 minutes.

“I’m really happy,” the second-year scholar told MK Dons PlayerHD.

“I just thought I’d put myself out there and put myself in a high-pressured situation and do my best. I just want to keep pushing on and I thought this was a good opportunity so I thought I’d take it and try to make the most of it.

“I had a look at the keeper, gave him a few words and then just finished it.”

Thomas-Asante been a real bright spark for the Dons at the start of this season and the forward, himself, is pleased with how he’s performed when given the chance in Karl Robinson’s first-team.

“I’m happy with, first of all, the opportunity. At some clubs you wouldn’t really get this opportunity.

“My team-mates are really helpful and the fans have taken to me really well. I’m thankful to them, the manager and the assistant manager. Everyone has been very warming and welcoming.

“There’s a little bit of pressure but not too much I’m really enjoying it.”

He isn’t getting carried away, though.

“I’ve always been aware of my position and nothing is for certain yet – I’ve just got to keep pushing on.”

“From where I want to go, I’ve got a lot more to come but I’m happy with what’s happened so far and the opportunity so far.”
