Report: QPR Girls 1-6 Ladies

16 November 2016

Heather McDonnell struck twice after coming off the bench to help MK Dons Ladies beat QPR Girls 6-1 and reach the first round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup.

Rebecca Vass and Kerry Newman both got on the scoresheet in the first half, to put the Dons in control of the game by half-time.

The Dons then left it until the latter parts of the second period to grab the further four goals to make their win comfortable.

Leah Cudone made it 3-0 with a neat one touch goal before super sub McDonnell powerfully blasted the ball past the keeper twice in quick succession to make it 5-0, with less than 10 minutes left to play.

Charley Wright scored the final Dons’ goal of the game, accurately striking the ball into the corner of the net, leaving the QPR keeper with an impossible task.

After playing well and battling hard, the visitor’s efforts were rewarded with a late goal, but it did little to stop the Dons progress through to the next stage of the prestigious competition.

James Honeyman’s side started brightly, creating several efforts in the early minutes of the game despite the strength of the opposition.

Newman got the ball rolling for the Dons when it came to scoring. Following on from her impressive performance in her last game against Denham United, she used her pace to find space and then proceeded to effortlessly fire the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.

The Dons continued to battle for the ball, and create clear cut chances to double their advantage, with their efforts paying off courtesy of Vass, who struck the ball inch-perfectly from 25 yards out, in order to make it 2-0 before the halftime whistle.

QPR kept the Dons at bay in the early goings of the second half, with the Dons only managing to go close a couple of times.

Louise Naylor was able to break down the QPR defence, though, with a low pass that split the back four, allowing Cudone to run onto the ball and get into a one on one opportunity. She took only one-touch in order to sweep the ball calmly into the net to give the Dons momentum in the second half. 3-0.

Cudone was then replaced by McDonnell, who made an instantaneous difference to the game.

She blasted the ball into the net after several neat passes by her teammates to make it 4-0 and then quickly followed that up with some neat touches of her own, creating her own space which allowed her to place the ball into the corner of the goal. 5-0.

Wright took the opportunity to get on the scoresheet to make it 6-0 with two minutes to go, cutting inside from the wing to smash the ball into the top left hand corner of the net.

QPR got a goal for their battling performance, as the Dons couldn’t hold on to their clean sheet in the last minutes of the game, but they still go through to face Hemel Hempstead Town, from the Greater London Women league, in the first round of the competition. 6-1.
