Downing determined to display talent

11 November 2016

Centre-back Paul Downing says there is more to come from him as he prepares to take on his former side at Stadium MK.

Downing is set go head to head with Walsall, the club he enjoyed four years at between 2012 and the summer of this year.

“I’ve enjoyed the challenge of coming and testing myself here,” he told REDDOT. “It’s taken a bit of time to settle in and I feel there is a lot more to come from me.

“Hopefully in the games coming up I can show everyone what I’m capable of and help the Dons climb the table.”

He added: “I joined Walsall at a time where I’d just been released from an Academy and I needed to find a way into men’s football.

“Walsall are great at giving young players like me that an opportunity. It was a great environment for me to play and learn. They played a massive part in my development. I played alongside some really talented players, who have moved on to higher leagues. It’s close to where I’m from too.

“I have nothing but good words to say about the club - I loved it.”

Read the full interview with Downing in Saturday’s edition of REDDOT, which will be available to buy from the Club Store and sellers around the ground for just £3.

Also in this weekend's edition is an update on the search for a new manager, Dean Lewington pens his latest notes and Scott Wootton takes part in Either/Or, plus there's the usual four-page Young Dons spread to enjoy!
