Dons to remember

12 November 2016

MK Dons will pay tribute to the servicemen and women who have given their lives for their country, today at Sky Stadium MK.

This afternoon's matchball, which will be emblazoned with The Royal British Legion’s poppy logo, will be carried out by local World War II veteran Arnold Hargreaves.

Arnold, 99, was posted to the famous HMS Bulldog regiment in 1940 as an able seaman and played a major role in capturing the Enigma machine, which helped Britain decipher codes and ultimately win World War II.

A minute’s silence will then take place after the iconic Last Post has been performed by The Royal Green Jackets, who will then conclude that part of the remembrance ceremony with a rendition of Réveille.

This will be followed by wreaths from MK Dons and opponents Walsall being placed by Army Cadets, who will have lined up with the teams alongside fellow cadets and veterans.

There will be also a bucket collection for the Milton Keynes Jubilee branch of The Royal British Legion, who will be assisted on the day by TS Whaddon Cadets.

We will remember them.
