Chuks Aneke played over an hour in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Luton Town on Tuesday afternoon.
Aneke went close to setting up a goal in the third minute but George C Williams’ 20-yard effort was saved. The 25-year-old then had a shot of his own deflected just wide from distance.
At the other end, Charlie Burns produced a terrific save on 19 minutes to keep out a Luton header and not long after that stop, GC Williams put the Dons ahead – picking himself up after being fouled in the area to convert from the penalty spot. 1-0.
Aneke threatened to add to the goal tally either side of the half-time break - first going close with a chip which was cleared off the line and then hitting the crossbar a powerful header from Peter Kioso’s cross.
GC Williams and Kabongo Tshimanga also went close to a second early in the second half before a Dons trialist, who replaced Aneke in the 65th minute, found the far corner of the net with a terrific left-footed curler within 60 seconds of coming onto the field. 2-0.
Hatters striker Josh McQuoid pulled a goal back for his side on 67 minutes, tapping in after Burns had saved well from Craig Mackail-Smith. 2-1.
McQuoid and Mackail-Smith had efforts late on to try and secure a draw for the Bedfordshire visitors but they couldn’t find a way through, resulting in a positive afternoon for the men from MK1 who, as well as coming away victorious, saw one of their summer signings take another step towards full fitness.
Starting XI: Burns; Kioso, GB Williams (c), Jackson, Tilney; Rasulo (Thomas-Asante 46), Osei-Bonsu; Furlong, Aneke (Trialist 65), GC Williams (Nombe 80); Tshimanga.
