Cropper and US miss out on Olympics

30 March 2016

Cody Cropper’s US Under-23s side missed out on a place at the Rio 2016 Olympics after a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Colombia.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week, meaning USA just needed a victory on Tuesday night at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas to secure their place at this summer’s tournament.

However, a brace from Roger Martinez saw the Colombians make it through at America’s expensive, in a match where the hosts were reduced to nine men following red cards to Luis Gil and Matt Miazga.

Cropper didn’t feature in the disappointing second leg, despite impressing during his time on the field in the first match – the Dons goalkeeper replaced an injured Ethan Horvath late during last Friday’s draw but the Molde stopper was able to recover in time for Tuesday’s game.

The 23-year-old will now return to stadiummk ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Fulham.
