Things you need to know: George Williams

28 June 2016

Here are some things you need to know about full-back George Williams, who re-join the Dons in July from Sky Bet Championship outfit Barnsley...

Williams is a Don... again!
MK Dons’ newest signing Williams began his career at Stadium MK as a 14-year-old.

The defender progressed through the Dons’ Academy set-up and was a regular for the Under-18s during his scholarship period, however he was not offered a professional contract and left the Club in the summer of 2012.

Following spells at Worcester City and Barnsley, Williams now returns to his hometown Club and reunites with former teammate George Baldock, who he played with during his time in the Academy.

George passes the test!
After leaving the Dons in 2012, Williams joined Loughborough University to study sports science with management.

The 23-year-old played for the University side as well as part-time for National League North side Worcester City while earning his degree.

One for the big occasion!
Williams hasn’t been one to shy away from the big stage.

While playing for Worcester City, Williams played a pivotal role in an FA Cup upset, helping the Blues defeat Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena – they also came close to defeating Scunthorpe United in the following round but were beaten on penalties.

Then, with Barnsley, Williams twice visited Wembley Stadium and won on both occasions – firstly in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final and then in the League One Play-Off final.
