Euro 2016: Samir supporting home nations

9 June 2016

Samir Carruthers will be backing all the home nations at Euro 2016.

The MK Dons midfielder grew up in England but represented Republic of Ireland at youth level, while he also has friends and former teammates playing for Wales and Northern Ireland.

“I want to see all the teams in the United Kingdom and Ireland to do well,” Carruthers told mkdons.com. “Obviously I want England to do well but it will be nice to see Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have some success as well.

“If England and Wales can both qualify from the group that will be nice, especially as Jonny Williams and Simon Church are there with Wales and Dele (Alli), of course, with England.

“You’ve also got Lee Hodson and Griggy (Will Grigg) with Northern Ireland and I used to play for Republic of Ireland as well.”

He continued: “I’m not the type of person who wants teams to be knocked out early doors. You want to see the players you know through playing with or against them do well.”

Will Carruthers be watching on over the next month?

“Everyone gets bored during the summer so it’s good we’ve got a tournament going on during the summer –  I’ll certainly be watching while I’m on holiday.”
