Euro 2016: Dean backing Dad’s England

10 June 2016

Dean Lewington is looking forward to Euro 2016 getting underway this weekend, not least because of his personal investment in the tournament.

The MK Dons captain’s dad, Ray Lewington, is England boss Roy Hodgson’s right-hand man and he’ll be hoping his senior can help lead the Three Lions to their first major title since 1966.

“Hopefully England can progress through the group and do well,” Lewington told mkdons.com.

“The major tournaments are always so exciting and every football fan in this country looks forward to watching England at a tournament.

“If England can perform then that will raise everyone’s spirits ahead of the new season.”

He continued: “It’s always difficult to talk to my Dad that often during a tournament because they have a lot of meetings and sessions. It’s very intense when they are actually there but I’ll tend to speak to him before a game and afterwards, just to try and keep in touch.”

“Hopefully I'll be able to get over there to watch a game or two - that would be good.”
