Euro 2016: Church living the dream

10 June 2016

Simon Church says it’s a ‘dream come true’ to represent Wales at Euro 2016.

The MK Dons striker has been with the Wales squad in Dinard preparing for their Group B opener against Slovakia on Saturday – the country’s first match at a major tournament in over 50 years.

“Being a part of this squad for France is a dream come true,” Church told FAW.Cymru. “A lot of people might say that but to me it absolutely is.

“I’m so excited, so unbelievably excited as is the whole squad – there’s a massive buzz around the camp.”

Church featured seven times for Wales during their qualification campaign, as Chris Coleman’s men finished second in their group to tournament dark-horses Belgium after winning six of their 10 fixtures.

“I think as a squad we all felt quite early on in this last campaign that we were going to qualify for the European Championships but we didn’t want to believe it – we always had that mentality that we would focus on the next game, we didn’t want to look too far forward.

“We had a good few results early on, then good results against Belgium and Israel away that really boosted our confidence and from there on in we just carried that on to see us over the line.”
