Dons open on the road!

22 June 2016

MK Dons will begin their league campaign away from home for the third time in four years.

The men from MK1 will start their 2016/17 season with a trip to Shrewsbury Town, having previously opened their 2013/14 and 2015/16 campaigns on the road – the former, ironically, against the Shrews at Greenhous Meadow.

While the Dons drew 0-0 with the Shropshire outfit that day, they had much better success in their opening away game of last season, beating Rotherham United 4-1 in a stunning clash at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Their first-ever road opener was against Leicester City in August 2008 and that was followed by a trip to Walsall two years later in 2010/11.

Prior to the 2013/14 season, the Dons had only played away from home twice on opening day.

The clash with the Saddlers was boss Karl Robinson’s first game in charge of the Dons in a full-time capacity and he began his reign with a 2-0 triumph courtesy of goals from Sam Baldock and Dan Woodards.
