Robbo: Can’t rush right signings

21 July 2016

Karl Robinson says MK Dons are continuing to work around the clock to bolster their squad ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, but re-iterates the Club will not be rushed into making signings.

Karl Robinson says MK Dons are continuing to work around the clock to bolster their squad ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, but re-iterates the Club will not be rushed into making signings.

Although Robinson admits the squad is smaller than he would like at this stage, he knows he still has time to bring in the players that he feels will enhance the quality of the group.

This time last season, the Dons had secured virtually of their targets but the Liverpudlian has since admitted that, upon reflection, that transfer window wasn’t the success the Club had deemed it at the time – Robinson is keen the same mistakes aren’t made again.

"We got praised for the early work at the start of last season and then criticised for that work during the season,” the 35-year-old said. “It’s important, for me, that we make sure we get the right players in this summer.”

“There’s work still to be done and the effort behind the scenes is certainly there. We’re all working hard to try and find and secure those players over forthcoming days.”

“Our aspirations of what we want and what we’ve been able to get isn’t quite the same, yet. We’re looking but there are some closed doors at the moment – it’s been a frustrating few weeks.

“Numbers aren’t what we want them to be at the moment so there’s an awful lot more work to be done. We need a striker and at least two wide players as we’re short in that area. With Kyle going out, we need another centre-back too.

The Dons boss, though, wants more.

Robinson has brought in Ed Upson, Paul Downing and George Williams so far this summer, as well as re-sign last season’s top goalscorer Nicky Maynard – all four players turned down offers from higher-ranked clubs to move to Stadium MK. Robinson's men make their Stadium MK return on Tuesday 26th July, when they host Everton in a pre-season friendly.
