Preview: Corby Town

19 July 2016

MK Dons continue their pre-season preparations this evening when they take on Corby Town at Steel Park.

Karl Robinson’s men, who travel to Northamptonshire for what will be their sixth friendly of the summer, reached the halfway point of their pre-season campaign on the weekend during their double-header in St Ives.

The men from MK1 went into those two matches against Cambridge City and St. Ives Town on the back of three Ireland-based friendlies, in which they won two and drew the other.

Kick-off at Steel Park tonight is at 7.45pm.

THE OPPOSITION
Corby are currently members of the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, after their relegation from the National League North.

The Steelmen, who reached the National League North last year after winning the Evo-Stik League Southern in 2014/15, are managed by Tommy Wright who is a former England Under-20s striker that had spells with Leicester City, Barnsley and Aberdeen as a player.

They have only played two friendlies so far this pre-season but impressed in both outings, beating Rothwell Corinthians 5-1 before following that up with a 2-1 success over Eynesbury Rovers.

TEAM NEWS
Karl Robinson is expected to take a strong side to Corby as he looks to get his players in shape for the start of the 2016/17 season.

Dean Bowditch and David Martin are currently nursing calf and hip injuries so won't be involved, while Darren Potter and Nicky Maynard may be rested as part of their closely-monitored training programmes.

Daniel Powell missed the double-header on the weekend with a knock to his knee but could feature this evening as he looks to add to his pre-season goal tally.

Two more who could play are Callum Brittain and Kabongo Tshimanga, who are due to fly back from Iceland this morning following the expiry of their loans at Throttur Reykjavik. Tshimanga spent time on loan with Corby last season.
