Nicky confident Dons can dominate

8 July 2016

Nicky Maynard is confident MK Dons return to winning ways this season.

Maynard, who scored seven goals in 23 appearances for the Dons in 2015/16, returned to Stadium MK on a one-year deal late last week, with a strong belief that the team can impress in Sky Bet League One.

“We’ve got a great squad,” Maynard told MK Dons PlayerHD. “We play attractive football and hopefully that type of football will allow us to dominate a lot of the games.

“We didn’t win enough games last season but we need to stick together, get a good pre-season under our belt and get off to a good start.

“If we can put hard-work and our skill into the games and finish with end product, then hopefully we can come away with the three points more often than not.”

“Pre-season is never nice, no matter how hard you work during the offseason – you can never fully prepare for it.

The 29-year-old, however, understands that pre-season is part and parcel of the game and hopes to benefit as much as possible from the grind.

There are still four weeks until the 2016/17 opener against Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow, which means there’s still plenty of hard work for Maynard and Co to endure before then.

He continued: “I did a lot of work over the summer and I’ve come back in good shape. I’m looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt and getting myself ready for the new season.”

“It’s something that needs to be done and I’m sure all the lads will be willing to work as hard as they can to get as fit as they can.” Maynard could make his Stadium MK return on Tuesday 26th July, when the men from MK1 host Everton in a pre-season friendly.

Tickets for the friendly are priced from £12 adults and £3 under-18s, while Season Ticket holders are entitled to discounted prices - click here for full details!
