Captain calls for response

22 February 2016

Dean Lewington has called on his teammates to react to Saturday’s disappointment, when they take on Huddersfield Town at stadiummk this Tuesday.

The Dons, despite going into the weekend on the back of three positive results against top-half sides, were beaten 2-0 by Bristol City – their first defeat in four games.

"Nobody on the pitch played anywhere near their full capabilities which is very disappointing, especially when it was such a big game for us,” captain Lewington told MK Dons PlayerHD.

“We didn’t start great and it just seemed to carry on from there. It was a very scrappy game in the first half and the mistake at the end gave them the chance to score. If we’d have gone in at half-time (without conceding) we maybe would have been able to sort things out.

“The second half, it just didn’t click. We tried to a bit more aggressive and a bit more on the front foot but it just didn’t work.

“After the last week, the three games we had and the five points we picked up, we felt really positive but (the Bristol City defeat) is just two steps back. It’s very frustrating when you think a corner might be turned and we produce a performance like that.”

He continued: “It’s Huddersfield on Tuesday and you’d hope there will be reaction. It’s another home game which is good for us. If we can get three points then it will go some way to making up for Saturday.”

“Tuesday is another chance to get more points. We have a points tally in our heads that we think we need and we’re just focused to try and achieve that.”

“It’s disappointing when you come in after a defeat and see results have gone our way. It would have been nice to win and pull further clear but, on the other hand, it’s a let off for us.

Despite the defeat to Bristol City, the men from MK1 remain five points clear of the bottom three heading into the final 14 games of the season and Lewington remains confident the side can secure their Sky Bet Championship status for 2016/17. Lewington and the Dons will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they face Huddersfield Town at stadiummk.
