Boss expects a tough battle

18 February 2016

Karl Robinson is expecting a tight encounter this Saturday when his Dons side take on a Bristol City outfit who they sit level on points with in the table.

The men from MK1 and the Robins occupy the two places above the bottom three and go head-to-head at stadiummk this weekend in an important Sky Bet Championship fixture.

Robinson said: “We know how hard it will be but I'm sure the fans will be behind us. They're coming off the back of two wins and we're coming off three great results too.

“Last year they were streets ahead of everyone and you don't win a league at a canter for no reason. I'm sure Lee (Johnson) will do well going in there.”

He continued: “That none of the teams who got promoted last year are in the relegation zone shows how good League 1 was last year.”

Robinson’s Dons go into Saturday’s crucial clash on the back of a recent good run of results – after holding Cardiff City to a goalless draw, his side were minutes away from beating table-toppers Middlesbrough and then picked up an excellent three points at Derby County.

“If you take the Bolton game away from our recent form, we've been excellent. The goal against Leeds was a freak, so we could be sat here with 35 points in a comfortable position, well away from the relegation zone but in some ways, it has given us extra motivation to look forward now.

“We've had to learn and evolve as a team, myself as a coach and in the backroom. We've always pressed high, but that can leave us open. Recently we've defended space better and in key areas.

“We've always been one of the best footballing teams in the league, so we've not had to approach games like this before. We still believe in what we do, we've not changed our style one bit, but there have been elements out of possession where we need to improve.”

Tickets for Saturday's clash with Bristol City are priced from £25 adults, £17 over-65s/under-21s and £7 under-18s while under-12s go FREE with a Young Dons membership - female fans can buy tickets inclubRed from just £25 adults and £15 under-18s.
