22 August 2016

MK Dons Under-18s claimed their first win of the new season in emphatic style, with a 6-3 triumph over Peterborough United at Woughton-on-the-Green.

Sam Nombe (pictured) netted four times while defender Harry Stratton and midfielder Andrew Osei-Bonsu, who made his first-team debut in the EFL Cup win at Newport County, also got on the scoresheet in Saturday’s superb success.

The young Dons, managed by head of academy coaching Eduardo Rubio this season with Mike Dove now overseeing the development side, opened the scoring just three minutes in when Peter Kioso’s low cross made it all the way through to Stratton, who found the top right-hand corner from 10-yards. 1-0.

Nombe then doubled the Dons’ advantage with his first of the afternoon five minutes later – a near post finish from Osei-Bonsu’s pull-back. 2-0.

Posh did reduce the deficit courtesy of a terrific 20-yard strike into the top corner of Nathan Pickworth’s goal but the Dons managed to restore their two-goal lead before the interval through Osei-Bonsu’s strong finish, following a neat one-two with Nombe in the box. 3-1.

After the re-start, the visitors made it 3-2 from the penalty spot but the Dons, once again, extended their lead on 71 minutes when Nombe raced onto Bradley Bell’s back-heel and fired his shot under the opposition keeper. 4-2.

Nombe completed his hat-trick with eight minutes remaining after bringing down Juma Omar’s long pass and composing himself to finish. 5-2.

In stoppage-time, the second-year striker capped off a superb afternoon for both him and the Dons with the best finish of the game by far – a terrific 20-yard strike after a fantastic solo run - although Posh did grab the last goal of the game late-on. 6-3.

The young Dons host Northampton Town in their next Youth Alliance clash this coming Saturday.
