Defender Tilney’s memorable debut

11 August 2016

Ben Tilney may have had to wait for MK Dons debut, but the young full-back certainly won’t forget his first appearance for the Club.

Tilney, who is entering his second full season as a professional, scored a stunning 25-yard strike to help a young Dons side come from two goals down and win a dramatic EFL Cup tie at Newport County.

“It was amazing to be a part of,” the 19-year-old told MK Dons PlayerHD.

He continued: “Fortunately, it’s a bit of a smaller team you do get opportunities like this and it’s important I take them. I’m learning every day and I’ve got to keep learning in training and games like this.”

“I’m over the moon to get my goal. I was running through and I could hear a few of the boys shouting ‘shoot’, so I just swung for it and fortunately it went in – it was a bit surreal but a brilliant feeling.”

“We were a young team but we stuck together throughout – all the lads were buzzing.”

“It was a great moment for the Club. You looked around and noticed we’d all grown up together – you forgot it’s a cup competition and a first-team game when you looked around.

Tilney was one of 13 Academy graduates and players included in Karl Robinson’s squad for the clash in South Wales and the defender was honoured to be a part of a memorable evening for the Football Club. MK Dons will look to make it three wins from three when they entertain Millwall at Stadium MK - tickets for this Saturday's clash are priced from £22 adults, £17 over-65s, £17 under-21s (members only) and £7 under-18s.
