Dan’s delight at winning strike

8 August 2016

Daniel Powell has a knack for scoring goals early in the season and the winger continued that form by grabbing match-winner in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town

Powell has now netted within the first two games in four of the past five seasons after firing Ed Upson’s back-heel past Shrews goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler at Greenhous Meadow – a goal which earned the Dons a well-deserved three points.

“It’s always nice to get a goal,” Powell told MK Dons PlayerHD. “The keeper got a hand to it but there was too much force behind it! It’s a good start to the season and hopefully I can kick on from this.

He continued: “Anything can happen in the first game of the season. We weren't at our best today but still came away with the win, which is a good sign.”

“It was a great start to the season. The most important thing is that we got the win. Bonus, a clean sheet, and even more of a bonus, I got the goal.”

“It was very impressive. We knew it would be tough for them dropping down the league but it’s good support and it shows what this club are made of.”

The Dons were backed by over 600 travelling supporters in Shropshire – an impressive total considering the disappointment of last season and the distance between the two clubs.
Powell and Co will look to build on their opening-day success when they entertain Millwall this Saturday - tickets for the Stadium MK clash are priced from £22 adults, £17 over-65s, £17 under-21s (members only) and £7 under-18s.
