Walsh wants to put injures behind him

22 April 2016

Joe Walsh has endured a difficult first full season at stadiummk but the defender is enjoying his recent run in the side.

The centre-back, who joined the Dons a permanent basis from Crawley Town this summer, has been limited to just 19 appearances because of injuries but has returned to the starting XI in recent weeks.

“When I have got a chance to play I’ve enjoyed it,” he told DOTRED. “It’s all about staying fit for me now because if I can stay healthy and avoid injuries then I give myself the best chance of getting into the starting XI, obviously.

“As with any footballer, you enjoy it most when you are playing and when you are enjoying it, you tend to perform better too.”

On Saturday, Walsh and Co face Brentford knowing they must win to stand any chance of keeping their Sky Bet Championship survival dream alive and the Welshmen insists the players are going into the match with that mindset.

“We understand the position we’re in – we just need to go out on Saturday and give our all to try and win.

“But we want to win every game we play, whether it’s a friendly a game in the middle of the season or at the end, so nothing has changed.”

Read more from Walsh in Saturday’s edition of REDDOT, which will be available at £3 from sellers around the ground and the Club Superstore.

The defender talks about his desire to remain fit as well as his aims to work a way back into the Wales national team. He also reveals what it was like playing for Swansea City as a Cardiff City fan.
