Skipper thankful for support

Dean Lewington is grateful to the fans for their supportive reaction to Saturday’s disappointment.

The Dons saw their stay in the Sky Bet Championship come to an end last weekend after a defeat to Brentford but despite the frustration, the supporters inside stadiummk remained in their seats to acknowledge the players after the final whistle.

“They are a credit to themselves,” Lewington told MK Dons PlayerHD. “While it was the outcome that nobody wanted, it was fantastic to see people still there supporting us.

“At other clubs, when their teams go down, there can be a toxic atmosphere and the fans tend to get on top of the players but here, they’ve stayed and supported us.

“Our fans get a bit of stick from the outside but they there aren’t too teams around the country who have the fans that we do, who constantly support the team.”

“We’ll have meetings and say what needs to be said but then it’s really about starting to build for next season and restoring a little bit of pride in the final two games.”

“That was our last chance to stay in the Championship, so to lose 4-1 is embarrassing to be a part of.

Although appreciate of Saturday’s support from the stands, Lewington refused to gloss over the disappointment of relegation and insists the players will be doing all they can to restore some pride in the final two games.
