Carl Baker insists the Dons’ dressing room hasn’t given up hope of securing their Sky Bet Championship status.
The men from MK1 are nine points adrift of safety with five games remaining and although their fate is no longer in their hands, Baker says he and his teammates still believe they can retain their place in the second tier.
“Some people will see it as an impossible situation for us but as long as it’s mathematically possible we’ve got to keep going,” Baker told MK Dons PlayerHD.
“There’s no point being here if we’re not going to roll our sleeves up, dig deep and keep fighting.
“We know it’s going to be a tough ask and we’re relying on a lot of results going our way but we’ve just do the best we can at our end, pick up some points and see where that takes us.”
He continued: “The gaffer, Richie (Barker) and Keith (Andrews) have done really well to keep the spirits high. They’ve reminded us that we can still do it and as long as that’s possible we’ve got to keep working hard to achieve it.”

“It’s going to be a tough game, as it always is against Preston. We’re aware of how they set up and we know they’re going to be difficult to break down but we’ve got to do it, we’ve got to find a way to get the three points.
The Lilywhites have enjoyed an excellent first season back in the Championship and have proven difficult to beat all year, but Baker demands that the team find a way to get past their opponents and earn a much-needed victory.
Baker & Co will be hoping to kick-start their fight to remain in the division on Saturday when they travel to Deepdale to face a Preston North End side who currently placed in 10th.
