Barca coach excited for MK Dons visit

30 April 2016

FC Barcelona’s Head of Methodology Joan Vila has expressed his excitement at the Spanish club coming to Milton Keynes.

The Dons will host one of the world’s biggest and most-respected clubs on Sunday 7th May in the Kinship Academy Challenge Match, as both sides’ U15 age groups go head-to-head at stadiummk, kick-off midday.

FC Barcelona arrive the previous day with all their staff and players watching the Dons’ Sky Bet Championship clash with Nottingham Forest before Vila, himself, leads a coaching workshop alongside Dons’ Head of Academy Coaching Edu Rubio in the evening.

“We are all really looking forward to it for different reasons,” said Vila, who has played role in developing the likes of FC Barcelona legends, World Cup and European Championship winners Xavi and Carles Puyol.

“When Edu contacted us, I was looking forward to coming because of our relationship and the fact I knew we would be looked after. Also, the excitement for our U15s of playing in a stadium – they don’t normally get the chance to play in such a great stadium so it’s very exciting for the players.

“The programme for the weekend is also something to get excited about – that really convinced us. It’s not just a football game, the boys will get the chance to watch a Championship match on the Saturday, to meet and mingle with the MK Dons youngsters, stay in a hotel – it’s also the social side of things.

“I will also speak and hopefully pass on some of my experiences in the evening – we, as a club, like sharing our ethos because we are proud of what we do, but it’s a humble pride. We are happy to be coming for a number of reasons - it will be a very good experience for everyone.”

Initially only available to MK Dons staff, the Club has managed to extend the invite for Vila’s workshop – don’t let this exciting event pass you by!

Taking place in the Players’ Lounge, doors open at 5pm and tickets cost £30, which include tea and coffee. You must bring your confirmation email to the event.
