Hitchcock scores for Stevenage

1 September 2015

Tom Hitchcock bagged his first goal for Stevenage in their 1-1 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

The striker, who has made five appearances for the Boro since joining them on loan, came off the bench to net a late equaliser - stabbing home from Brett Williams’ knockdown with just 16 minutes remaining.

Stevenage boss Teddy Sheringham told Boro PlayerHD after the game: “(It was a) clever little finish. You have got to give credit for the ball in, for the head down from Brett which was a fantastic little header down into the space and Tom has come along and finished it.

“He is a proven little goalscorer and I am pleased for Tom to get off the mark as he hasn’t had the most game time since I brought him in because I thought the other two strikers have done well.”

Elsewhere, George Baldock continued his run of playing every minute of Oxford United’s 2015/16 season by featuring for the full 90 in their 2-0 triumph over Yeovil Town.

The 22-year-old put in another solid display at right-back as the U’s collected their first league clean-sheet of the season. He also went close to netting his first goal of the campaign but his sixth-minute effort was blocked by Glovers goalie Artur Krysiak.

Striker Kabongo Tshimanga was also involved this weekend, featuring in Corby Town’s National League North clash with Solihull Moors.

Tshimanga, who has scored five goals in as many games since moving to Steel Park, played a key role in the Northamptonshire club’s opening goal but couldn’t prevent them falling to a 3-1 loss – their first defeat of the season.
