Dons make Maynard signing

22 September 2015

The Dons have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of striker Nicky Maynard.

Maynard, who left Cardiff City in the summer, joins on a deal which runs until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

The 28-year-old spent pre-season with Nottingham Forest before training with the Dons for the past two weeks, clearly catching the eye and prompting Karl Robinson to secure the former Premier League man’s services.

Maynard has an impressive goalscoring record of better than one strike every three games during his career and has enjoyed spells with the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Bristol City and West Ham United.

Speaking to mkdons.com, Dons boss Robinson said: "I’m really pleased we have got him and I think the fans will be pleased that we can get players of his quality through the door - it shows again, as a Football Club, what we can achieve.

"With Nicky, we were firm from the word go with what we could offer and initially it was a shock for him and his people. They had to go away and think about it but I’m delighted he’s decided to sign."

He continued: "The league is ruthless and it will take him a little while to fully get up to speed so we need to be patient, but he's very good player and I'm excited to see him play for us."

Maynard, who will wear the number 28 shirt, could make his debut on Wednesday when the Dons entertain Southampton in the Capital One Cup, subject to international clearance.

Interviews with Karl and Nicky to follow on MK Dons PlayerHD.
