International recognition for CoE duo

14 October 2015

MK Dons Sport and Education Trust (SET) is celebrating further international success for its girls Centre of Excellence (CoE) stars.

Two Under-15s players, Abbie Roberts and Melissa Fillis, have been called up for England Women’s Under-15s team and The FA Girls’ National Performance Centre respectively.

Roberts, who received her first England cap alongside MK Dons teammate Amelia Hazard against Holland back in May, will link up with her England teammates for a training camp at Loughborough University on Monday 26th October and will remain with the side for four days.

Fillis has been called up for her second Under-14s National Performance Camp of the 2015/16 season. Fillis, who has been at the SET’s Centre of Excellence for three years, will join up with the remainder of the squad on Friday 23rd October for three days in Warwick.

Earlier this season, Hazard was involved in the England Women’s Under-16/Under-17 team split training camp at Bisham Abbey while Erin Davies was selected for the Wales National Development Squad.

James Honeyman, Football Development Manager, said: “It’s great news that Abbie and Melissa have continued to impress the international selectors. Both girls have worked incredibly hard throughout their time with the SET and are now reaping the benefits.

“The news of their international recognition only bolsters the Centre of Excellence’s reputation for creating exciting opportunities and pathways for our players. Abbie, Melissa, Amelia and Erin have all done us proud by representing their countries this season and we look forward to seeing their progression in their nations and MK Dons shirts too.”
