Samir Carruthers says his first full campaign as a Dons player will be one he’ll never forget.
The former Aston Villa midfielder to stadiummk on a permanent basis last summer after enjoying a loan spell with the club the previous season and, while that campaign ended without success, this one resulted in promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.
“It’s been an unbelievable season and one to remember,” Carruthers told MK Dons Player after promotion was secured. “I knew what I was coming into when I signed here - I knew we wanted to get promoted and that we’d be a dominant force.
“In truth, I didn’t believe that this would happen and in my head I was just thinking of the play-offs and, if we got there, make sure we’re on a great run. I just thought we were building good momentum for the play-offs but we don’t have to worry about that now!”
The men from MK1 were cheered on by over 16,000 fans in the pivotal clash against Yeovil Town and Carruthers paid tribute to the Dons faithful for both their support on Sunday and throughout the season.
“The fans were unbelievable and the atmosphere was unreal. When the atmosphere is like that, it makes you play better and, for me, when I hear the crowd cheering what I do, it gives me more confidence.
“I’m thankful to all the fans and the staff – everyone has been a massive help for me and the team this season. I’m just buzzing!”
