Robbo on retained list and recruiting

22 May 2015

Karl Robinson says he wanted to be ‘loyal’ when it came to the Dons’ retained list, while he made the decision regarding Ian McLoughlin for the goalkeeper’s career.

David Martin, Lee Hodson, Dean Lewington, Tom Flanagan, Antony Kay and Dean Bowditch have been offered contracts and are currently considering their offers.

Meanwhile, the Club have exercised options in the contracts of Jordan Spence, Carl Baker, Daniel Powell and Charlie Burns, which will see the quartet remain at stadiummk for at least another 12 months.

Ian McLoughlin and Will Summerfield have not been offered contracts and will officially leave the Club on June 30th.

"The only ones who haven’t got offers are Will and Ian, who should be number 1 somewhere," he said. "That’s more for the benefit of his career and we wish him all the luck in the world. He’s been a great servant but he’s at the age where he needs to play.

"Everyone else is as it was so we go again. I wanted to be loyal."

As for bringing fresh faces in, the 34-year-old and his team are leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to strengthen the squad ahead of the Sky Bet Championship season.

He said: "It’s been hectic, plenty of phonecalls. We have to get it right for the Football Club and we’ve been in Holland, Belgium, France and Spain.

"We are not equipped to be competing with the bigger hitters in the Championship – we are one of the small boys. It’s hard shopping in this country because we aren’t a big boy in this league.

"We need to respect the fact that we will rely on loans. We won’t be able to do any early deals because of the league we are in and the teams we are up against, but we’re pushing things and have spoken to a few players about coming in on loan.

"It’s very busy behind the scenes – it’s been my busiest summer as manager so far."
