The new season may be a few months away but Karl Robinson is already working hard to maintain and add to his promotion-winning squad.
The Dons boss, however, isn’t just looking to make up the numbers in English football’s second tier and has already begun the process of re-signing some of his out-of-contract players, as well as bolstering the group with fresh faces.
“I’d like six players,” he said. “We’ve made one or two enquiries and we’ve also started contract talks with our existing players - we’d like a number of the players back next season and those talks have been going on for weeks.”
“If we can grow this club, more people will start coming here to see what we’re all about - it’s a really exciting time for the Football Club and hopefully we can go on and surpass this season.”
The loan market has proved a beneficial tool for Robinson in recent seasons – the likes of Patrick Bamford, Benik Afobe and Will Grigg have all enjoyed successful temporary stints at stadiummk in the past two seasons – and the Liverpudlian hopes higher division clubs will continue to trust him and his staff and allow their players to develop in Milton Keynes.
He added: “I’m sure we’ll get a good pick of a talented pond of. We’ve got good friends and I'm sure they will be very grateful to allow us to develop some of their talented players."
"We may have to wipe the slate clean and look for new areas of development and we may look at clubs we might not have used before - we shouldn’t be frightened of trying to recruit some of their talent.”
