Former Don Brendan makes Premier League bow

18 May 2015

Brendan Galloway became the first MK Dons academy product to play in the Premier League when he made his full debut for Everton in their 2-1 win over West Ham United.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Toffees last July, replaced injured Leighton Baines in Roberto Martinez’s starting line-up and impressed with an assured performance at left-back.

After the game, he told evertonfc.com: “I’ve worked hard all season and to get rewarded like this is what dreams are made of.

"I found out at 1.30pm when the manager named the team. I wasn't expecting it. I worked hard in training this week but I didn't expect to be given the nod, but when I did I was really happy and looking forward to it.”

Everton manager Martinez added: “It was a big moment in his career that he coped with in a magnificent manner. I thought Brendan was always cool, composed and had an incredible confidence.

“All in all, what he is now is a player who, in my eyes, has been outstanding in his standards over the last 10 months since we brought him to the Football Club. His reaction to every little test and challenge has been superb and he has earned the opportunity to play.”

After progressing through the Academy set-up at stadiummk, Galloway made his senior debut in the Dons’ 6-0 FA Cup win over Nantwich Town in November 2011. He then made his first start in the League 1 clash against Rochdale that same season.

The defender went on to feature 17 appearances for the men from MK1, scoring his first senior goal in a 4-1 FA Cup triumph at home to Halifax Town.

Dons boss Karl Robinson, who handed Galloway his first appearances in senior football, told mkdons.com: “I’m happy for Brendan and I’m sure it was just as proud a moment for him as it was for me, the Club and the Dons supporters as well.”

Galloway is one of a number of players who have progressed through the Club's Academy system and gone on to feature either for the Dons' first-team, internationally or a side at a higher level.

The Academy Supporters’ Draw has been introduced to ensure the Dons can continue to invest in the identification, development and coaching of the best home grown talents of the future, providing the Club with strong foundations for the next 10 years and beyond.

It is a free-monthly draw open to everybody over the age of 18 who purchases a season ticket and includes a £12 donation (£1 per month) to the Academy. All season ticket holders who have made the donation will be entered into a free draw every month where one lucky supporter will be selected to win back the price they paid for their 2015/16 season ticket.

To sign up to the Academy Supporters' Draw, visit the Box Office at stadiummk/the kiosk at thecentre:mk, call 0333 200 5343 or email boxoffice@mkdons.com.
