Trio feature for Northern Ireland

25 March 2015

Ben Reeves, Lee Hodson and Will Grigg all featured for Northern Ireland in their Vauxhall Challenge Match with Scotland at Hampden Park.

Reeves and Grigg both started the international friendly, which finished 1-0 to the home side, while Hodson was introduced as a 58th minute substitute.

On his full debut for Northern Ireland, Reeves looked assured in his favoured ‘number 10’ role and linked play well before being replaced by his former Southampton teammate Steven Davies in the 70th minute.

Grigg, meanwhile, worked tirelessly up front and his liveliness saw him create a couple of decent openings, although the one time he was able to pull the trigger his effort was blocked by Russell Martin. He came off for Pat McCourt on 57 minutes.

In the same set of changes, Hodson was brought on for West Bromwich Albion’s Chris Baird and he slotted in seamlessly at right-back. The 23-year-old played well during his time on the pitch and kept the previously threatening Ikechi Anya quiet.

Elsewhere, Lewis Baker played 70 minutes for England Under-20s in their 1-1 draw with Mexico at Barnet FC’s The Hive.

The Chelsea loanee captained the Young Lions, who came from behind to earn a share of the spoils after 90 minutes thanks to Chuba Akpom’s late penalty.
