Karl: Display didn’t deserve defeat

2 March 2015

Karl Robinson believes his side’s performance at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday warranted a positive result.

The Dons dominated large parts of their clash with Coventry City but couldn’t overcome two first-half goals from the Sky Blues, both of which were scored inside a five minute spell.

“I don’t think I’ll ever come away from a game as shell-shocked as I am,” Robinson told MK Dons Player afterwards. “I didn’t have any doubt that we’d lose the football match and I’m still shocked at the fact that we have.

“My players deserve an awful lot of credit because they’ve worked their socks off. After their second goal went in they didn’t have another shot on target - the reaction from the players was as good as I’ve seen all season.

“I thought we were better in every area but we just couldn’t get over the line. They were sloppy goes for us to concede but there were definitely a lot of positives for us to take from the game.

“We’ve got another big game coming up on Tuesday and we’ll need the fans to come back out and get behind us again. Ultimately, we just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing, and we will do.”

Robinson’s side were backed by a whopping 1,689 Dons supporters in the West Midlands and the Dons boss was keen to reserve a special mention for the travelling faithful.

He added: “The fans were just amazing and it just felt like we were part of a football club that is getting bigger and better. They were magnificent and although we’re sorry we couldn’t get the result, I feel the players gave them a performance to be proud of.”
