Kay: Competition will drive Dons

15 June 2015

Nobody played more league games last season than Antony Kay but the defender knows that he and his team-mates will have to fight to secure their starting XI places.

Kay, who missed just one league fixture for the Dons in 2014/15, put pen-to-paper on a new deal last week to extend his stay in Milton Keynes by a further 12 months and ensure his spot in Karl Robinson’s squad for the Club’s inaugural Sky Bet Championship campaign.

“I only missed one league game last year,” Kay told mkdons.com. “I was happy to play as many as I did but I know that we’ve all got to prove ourselves again in pre-season.

“Obviously the main aim in pre-season is to build your fitness up and avoid injury but, having been promoted to the Championship, everybody is going to want to impress as there will be competition for places all over the park - that only be a good thing as it will keep people on their toes.”
