Captain confident in Dons

5 June 2015

Dean Lewington believes the men from MK1 have what it takes to be competitive in the Sky Bet Championship.

Lewington, who signed a new two-year deal earlier this week, will captain the Dons in their inaugural season in the second tier of English football.

“We’ve hosted a lot of big teams here now and we’ve never been embarrassed, we’ve always coped,” the 31-year-old told MK Dons Player.

“I’m confident we can hold our own – it’s a new challenge and one I’m looking forward to.”

The left-back was in fine form throughout the 2014/15 season as the Dons sealed automatic promotion from League 1 courtesy of a sensational campaign.

He said: “The personnel we had definitely helped – the back four enjoyed a good partnership.

“When you are in a winning team and you’ve got boys at the top of the pitch scoring so many goals, it makes life easier at the back.

“I was fortunate to be a part of a good team but I was pleased with own performances as well.”
