The Dons and Dean Lewington will continue their affiliation after the Club’s captain put pen to paper on a new deal.

Lewington, who played a pivotal role in the men from MK1 achieving promotion to the Sky Bet Championship, has signed a two-year contract to extend his stay at stadiummk.

The news caps off quite a 15 months for the 31-year-old, who started that spell by making his 500th appearance for the Club – the first Dons player to do so.

He then enjoyed a testimonial fixture against European Cup winners Nottingham Forest last summer before leading by example on and off the pitch as the Dons made the second tier of English football for the first time.

“I’m extremely happy to be staying,” he told MK Dons Player. “I’ve always loved it here and always been really happy. It’s been a great partnership.”

Looking ahead to 2015/16, he added: “There’s a lot of big teams and a lot of top-class grounds – we are all very excited about next season.”

A Wimbledon trainee, Lewington started in a Stuart Murdoch-led Dons side which drew 1-1 with Barnsley in the Club’s first-ever competitive fixture back in 2004 and since then the dominant left-back has, incredibly, missed just 50 games over 11 seasons. The journey continues...

An interview with Dean will be available to view on Player very shortly.
