Boss battling hard for transfer targets

24 June 2015

Karl Robinson is confident that he will be able to enhance his promotion-winning squad despite competing for targets with bigger clubs in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Dons have re-signed all but one of their out-of-contract players ahead of the new campaign, while Robinson and his recruitment staff have also been busy speaking to potential new recruits.

"We know next year is going to be even harder but we believe that we can recruit the players we need,” Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio.

“I think we need six or seven (new players). I'd like to bring in players who are 21, 22, 23 and bring them on, along with some experienced players and then add some young loans.

“But we have a wage cap and have always had one, so we'll never spend the money other Championship teams are doing - our budget will be in the bottom three next year.”

He continued: "The chairman's trying to build a sustainable club and the way he's doing it has been sensational.

"We've never spent a great deal but we've managed to achieve our goal of reaching the Championship and we’re all excited for the season ahead.”
