Simon enjoying life at stadiummk

23 July 2015

Simon Church may have only been with the Club for three weeks but the striker feels he’s already settled in at stadiummk.

Church was one of three players signed on the first day of pre-season back in June and the Wales international has spent nearly every day since, preparing for the 2015/16 alongside his new team-mates.

“I feel I’ve settled in really well,” Church told mkdons.com. “There are a great bunch of lads here and they welcomed me in quickly - I already feel part of the group.”

He continued: “It’s been a really good but tough pre-season and the boys have worked really hard up until now. We’ve come through it together and it’s been enjoyable getting back to playing games.”

Church got off the mark for his new club while in Ireland - netting the final goal in the 3-0 victory over Cabinteely – before bagging a brace in the 12-0 mauling of Buckingham Athletic this past weekend.

He said: “It was nice to get off the mark in Ireland. I want to come here and score goals and I think the way the team plays and the way the gaffer wants to me operate, should suit me and hopefully I can get back to scoring goals.”

While Church didn’t find the net in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town, he did get another 80 minutes of match fitness under his belt and the 26-year-old views the run-out as another good stepping stone ahead of the season opener against Rotherham United.

He said: “It was the first time a lot of us had got close to 90 minutes all summer. The result was frustrating but it wasn’t important – it was about getting everyone aware of their positions and what their jobs are, as well as getting valuable minutes.

“This was a good starting point for where we want to go. We’ve still got three or four important games to come leading up to Rotherham.”
