Dons sign in-demand Gallagher

29 July 2015

MK Dons have fought off competition from a host of clubs to secure the services of striker Sam Gallagher on loan from Southampton.

Gallagher, 19, completed the move to stadiummk on Wednesday and will spend the entire 2015/16 campaign with the Dons in the Sky Bet Championship.

The 6ft 4in forward is highly-rated at St. Mary’s Stadium and, since breaking into the first-team during the 2013/14 season, he has totalled 20 appearances and scored two goals, including one in the Barclays Premier League against Norwich City.

He has also represented England at Under-19s level having switched allegiances from Scotland, whom he played for three times at the same age group.

After finalising his switch to MK1, Gallagher told MK Dons PlayerHD: “It’s unbelievable to be here. From the moment I got here, I’ve been made to feel really welcome - to feel wanted by someone like Karl, and to be at this kind of Club, gives me a real boost.

“I’ve talked to people about the way this Club operates and it gives off a similar feel to where Southampton were at this point. It feels like the Club are going in a similar direction and so it was a no brainer to come here.”

Manager Karl Robinson added: “I think everyone will be excited by Sam. He’s a player who I’ve watched closely for years, even before he broke into the first team. He’s a really talented player and it wasn’t something I thought we’d have the opportunity of doing.

“I want to thank Les Reed and everybody at Southampton for giving us the opportunity to work with Sam and I want to thank Sam for wanting to come here. We gave him our pitch, like an awful lot of clubs, and he felt this was right for him and we’re so excited about that.”

Interviews with Sam and Karl will be available to view on MK Dons PlayerHD shortly.
