Tom targeting games and goals

14 January 2015

Striker Tom Hitchcock says he’s delighted to be back at stadiummk following a loan spell at Fleetwood Town.

The 22-year-old, who spent just over two months with the Lancashire outfit, made his return to Dons action in the 2-2 draw at Crawley Town last weekend before scoring in the 3-0 Final Third Development League Cup victory over Gillingham on Monday night.

“I’m buzzing to be back,” Hitchcock told Dons Player. “It’s been great to see the lads again and be back training with them every day. The atmosphere around the club is brilliant.

“I really enjoyed (the game against Gillingham), I’ve just needed some game time and it was good to get a goal as well. I know what Greeny is like, he’s a great crosser of the ball, so I just made sure I was in the right position. It’s a good confidence boost when you score a goal and I needed it really.”

Hitchcock has been limited to just one start since joining the Dons back in the summer, largely due to the form of loan forwards Benik Afobe and Will Grigg.

However, following the former’s departure to Wolves on Wednesday, the ex-Blackburn Rovers youngster sees a chance to break into the starting XI and if that opportunity does come, he is looking to grasp it with both hands.

“Benik’s a great player, a great lad and he did really well so it was just one of those things for me. Hopefully I can try and get back into the team now and score as many goals as I can.

“If I keep working hard in training I’ve got a good chance of starting more games but I feel fit and ready to go.”

Hitchcock and the Dons are in action this Saturday when they host Sheffield United at stadiummk, where tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £15 for seniors and £6 for under-18s - under-12s go FREE with a Young Dons membership.
