Robinson reveals XI for Spireites

2 January 2015

Karl Robinson has taken the unorthodox approach of confirming his starting XI for the replayed FA Cup second-round tie against Chesterfield early.

Robinson’s men take on the Spireites at stadiummk this Friday evening in what will be their fourth game in just two weeks. The FA ordered the tie to be played again after Chesterfield fielded an ineligible player in the original fixture.

The Dons boss will make five changes to the side which faced Walsall this past Sunday, with George Baldock, Mark Randall, Danny Green, Daniel Powell and striker Benik Afobe all set to start.

Quintet Antony Kay, Dele Alli, Carl Baker, Samir Carruthers and Will Grigg will make way, with Alli being rested completely.

“If we would have won on Sunday, I’d have said we could have done with a good break but the players are itching to get back on the pitch,” Robinson said.

“We’ll make one or two changes defensively to try and give people a rest because they’re knackered. Dele will not play now until Crawley because the kid is just looking dead on his feet.

“If we win this game on Friday then we’ve got to play again on the Tuesday and then the following Saturday. We need to make sure we get it right and to do that we’ve already picked the three teams back from Crawley, which is the priority.

“Still, we’re going to try and win the game and look to go as far as we can in the competition. The players will conduct themselves in the right way as they always do.”
