Dean: Dons can’t repeat Bees display

8 December 2015

The Dons need to make sure Saturday’s disappointing performance at Brentford is a one-off, according to captain Dean Lewington.

Lewington and co were beaten for the first time in three games at Griffin Park after they were punished for a lacklustre display which manager Karl Robinson described as the ‘worst of the season’.

“It was as disappointing as it’s been,” the 31-year-old full-back told the media. “We know that’s not acceptable and the Gaffer said it no uncertain terms that he was unhappy with it. We have to accept that - no one is hiding.

“We went into the game with a lot of confidence after a good point against Wolves and for the first 20 minutes we dominated the game but after the first goal went in it was downhill from there.

“In these games the first goal is massive. We’re not massive scorers so it’s going to be difficult  after you concede first to try and get back into the game. We just seemed to lose our way and that made it very difficult.

Lewington and the Dons will be looking to respond on Saturday when they take on Ipswich Town in a lunchtime clash at stadiummk – tickets are priced from £25 adults and £6 under-18s, while under-12s go FREE with a Young Dons membership.

He continued: “We’re 17 games in and it’s the first time we’ve been like that. Hopefully it’s just a blip and we can get back to our old-selves on home soil against Ipswich (Town). It has to be a one-off because we will go down if we keep playing like that.”

“We normally give a good account ourselves. We’ve lost some games this season but we normally do quite well and play, at least, to a certain standard. In this, every player had a bad game and I don’t think there’s anyone who can say they did well.
