Andrews delighted with Dons’ application

9 December 2015

Keith Andrews was pleased with the application of his players in the 4-1 victory over Maidenhead United.

The Dons booked their place in the semi-finals of the Berks and Bucks County Cup thanks to Rob Hall’s fine hat-trick and a poacher’s finish from Tom Hitchcock.

“I was delighted,” Andrews told mkdons.com. “We set the tone right from the off and played some fantastic football. The style and the swagger that they played with was a joy to watch.

“You have to set the tone early in these games. Teams at this level are normally well-organised so if you give them the impression you’re trying to stroll through the game then it gives them a glimmer of hope which more often than not they take advantage of.

“I told them before the game to make sure that I wouldn’t take anybody not putting a shift in and, in the main, the response they gave me was terrific

“We were sensational in the first half and well worthy of the lead – it could have been more. In the second half there were one or two issues but all in all it was a fantastic performance and I was thoroughly pleased with this evening’s work.”

“It’s good to have him back and I’m sure he’ll be back in the first-team fold in a couple of weeks. He’s a player I really like and I think he’s got a big future at this Club.

“I’m delighted for Joe and that’s why I gave him the armband,” Andrews added. “A couple of times he might have been a little bit rusty but in the main he was fantastic.

As well as the four goals and the impressive performance, another positive from Tuesday’s tie was Joe Walsh making a successful return to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. "
