Tshimanga nets on Town debut

13 August 2015

Kabongo Tshimanga scored on his debut for Corby Town in their 3-1 victory over Gloucester City on Wednesday night.

The young striker went straight in the Steelmen’s starting XI despite only joining the club on loan hours before and he introduced himself to the home fans on 12 minutes by scoring the game’s opening goal, racing away from the Gloucester defence and finishing cooly into the far corner.

Town then doubled their advantage through an excellent Alex Sammons strike, before they added a third in the 24th minute from the penalty spot after Dons’ Tshimanga was brought down in the box.

Tshimanga remained on the field for 73 minutes, earning a rave review from his manager Tommy Wright post-match. He told the Corby website: “Kabongo up front was lightning and he scored a well deserved goal.

“He’s a great prospect and we tried to sign him last year when he was on loan at Chelmsford, but we couldn’t get him through in the deadline. We waited on him, sat down in the summer and knew that we wanted to bring this kid in

“I’m delighted to have him on board now, he has scored a goal and won us a penalty too. He could have easily had more too. He’s had a great debut and there is plenty more to come from him.”

Next up for Tshimanga and Corby is a National League North clash with Chorley at Steel Park this weekend.
