Spence: We stuck to our style

10 August 2015

Anyone who thought the Dons would move away from their usual style of play following promotion to the Sky Bet Championship were proved wrong on Saturday.

In their first ever second-tier fixture, Karl Robinson’s men continued to display the football that earned them an automatic promotion spot in League 1 last season en route to a 4-1 victory over Rotherham United.

And defender Jordan Spence, who played a key role in the Dons’ important second goal, was pleased to see the team remain true to their style.

“We have a style of play, one that we believe in and one that we’ve said we won’t change,” Spence told MK Dons PlayerHD. “We played that way in League 1 and we managed to dominate games at that level so we feel that will give us a good standing in this league.

“We always try to get bodies forward and attack. We never really go away from home to play for a draw or to be ugly – we play our football and believe we can win that way.

“We always have a game plan and, as the manager tells us, if we stick to that we will come out on the right side of the result along as we take our chances – we did that today so that was good.”

He continued: “To score early in any game gives you a great opportunity but we conceded pretty much straight after. Our overall performance and management of the game was good once we got ourselves ahead again.

“It was by no means a perfect performance but we’re in this game for three points. We came up here with the intent to win the game and we’ve achieved that.”

Attention for the Dons now turns to Tuesday’s Capital One Cup first-round clash against Leyton Orient – the side’s first competitive fixture at stadiummk this season – and Spence insists all the focus, as it will be throughout the year, is on the next game.

“It’s a cliché but I’m not going to say anything else. All our focus is now on Tuesday night.”

Tickets for Tuesday's Capital One Cup tie against Leyton Orient are available to buy right up until kick-off - tickets are priced from £10 adults, £8 for over-65s and £1 for under-18s.
