Robbo’s Dons raring to go

5 August 2015

Karl Robinson says his side are relishing the chance to prove themselves in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Dons, promoted from League 1 in 2014/15 after finishing second on 91 points, begin their first ever season in the second tier on Saturday when they travel to Rotherham United’s AESSEAL New York Stadium.

“This is a really exciting place to be,” Robinson told the media. “We want to take this season in our stride.

“One or two papers have said we’ll be rock bottom and that acts as motivation. I know my players are good at what they do and we’re going to have a right good time. We want to be the best we can possibly be this season and that’s all I can ask.”

Last season will arguably go down as one of the greatest in the Club’s history after Robinson’s side secured their highest-ever finish in English football, while also leading the country in league goals scored.

But the Dons boss believes his side can still surpass the successes of 2014/15 but is keen to keeping all aims and targets internal.

“Last season was almost perfection but there’s always a way of surpassing it. We have our own thoughts on that and we’ll keep that internal - we have a really clear view of what we want to do.

“There’s no point in setting targets that we can surpass really easily, we want to achieve something. We know how difficult that will be but we are ready and willing to give it a try.”

He continued: “I want to attack this in a different way. We’re still going to attack, though, and be on the front foot, be exciting, and be the team no-one expects to compete.”

Robinson also confirmed that Dean Lewington will continue as captain while Darren Potter remains as vice-captain.

Watch Robinson's Dons in action this Saturday when they take on Rotherham United in their Sky Bet Championship opener - tickets are priced at £23 adults, £13 over-65s, £8 for under-18s and £6 for under-12s.
