Karl Robinson believes Preston North End are fitting opponents for the Dons’ first home game of the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship season.
The two sides were neck and neck competition for second place for the final few games of the campaign, with the men from MK1 edging in front on a dramatic final day following a 5-1 victory over Yeovil Town.
Preston would, however, go on to gain promotion via the play-offs – a deserved achievement according to Dons boss Robinson.
“It’s a great first game for us at home,” the 34-year-old manager told the media ahead of Saturday’s clash. “I don’t think you could have hand-picked a better one.
“We went toe-to-toe for such a long time last season and in the end they deserved to go up as well. We’ve got a lot of respect for them.”
He continued: “I thought they were sensational on Saturday. Some people will say their 0-0 is better than our 4-1 because of the quality of the opposition. That’s not being disrespectful to Rotherham, it’s because Middlesbrough are favourites to go up and to deny them shows well-drilled and organised they are.”
